Dumont developed in La Sagne,
Canton of Neuchatel, the first Dumont watch-making tools in 1875,
in the heartland of the Swiss
watch industry. Arnold Dumont, a self-taught watchmaker, started
in 1881 in La Chaux-de-Fonds to manufacture,
with only the help of a hammer, anvil, files and tools designed for
watch-manufacturing.
Later on, he adapted his forms to different other applications. 34 years later,
two of his sons, Paul & Theodore, took over the company. Dumont Tools,
which were originally created specifically for the Swiss watchmakers
and are now articles in great request abroad world-wide.
Succeeding her late husband Theodore Dumont, Suzanne Dumont took
over the company in 1927. Dumont products enjoyed an increasing popularity
as the years went by: a steadily growing popularity which was reflected
in the efforts of competing firms to copy the Dumont style in tools
they brought to market. But Dumont quality proved to be inimitable.
Andrée Dumont, Suzanne’s daughter took over the company until the
70’s with her engineer husband Edgard Sgobero.
Together they doubled the size of the company.
After Edgard Sgobero’s death, his son Christian Sgobero & his wife
Nicole Sgobero succeeded him at the head of the firm.
Today Dumont still preserves its character as a purely family company
with their two sons, Richard and David
Sgobero, while constantly alert to the possibilities
offered by modern technology in exploiting
its long experience and established production skills in the making
of precision tools. This could well be the reason
why these «Precision fingers of steel» are continuing to expand their applications
beyond the watch-making field itself. In November 2002, Christian Sgobero,
son
of Andrée Dumont and Edgar Sgobero, CEO since 1975, has relinquished his power
to his two sons last November 15, 2002. His two sons represent the fifth generation
of Dumont!
The new Dumont Team:
- Richard Sgobero, Engineer, Technical Director overseeing Production.
- His brother, David A. Sgobero serves as the Managing Director.
- M. Samuel Fawer, Engineer, was welcomed as the new President and
- Nicole Sgobero serves as the Vice-President.
These individuals come with years of experience and industry knowledge.
They welcome the challenge of this new Dumont generation.
